El Derbi madrileño (Real Madrid and Atletico with contrasting identities)

El Derbi madrileño (English: Madrid Derby) is the name given to football matches between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, both of them from Madrid, Spain. Real Madrid and Atletico are clubs with contrasting identities and very different fates - a divide similar to Manchester's derby, but far more political. Historically, Real Madrid have long been seen as the establishment club. On the other side, Atletico was always characterized by a 'sentimiento de rebeldía' (a sense of rebellion) although, during the early Franco years, it was Atlético that was the preferred team of the regime, being associated with the military airforce, until the regime's preferences moved towards Real Madrid in the 1950s. Franco sought to make political capital out of Real Madrid's European Cup titles at a time when Spain was internationally isolated - "Real Madrid are the best embassy we ever had", said one minister. Bernabeu, Real Madrid's stadium, is majestic, alongside banks and businesses on the classy and aristocratic Castellana, while Calderon can be found beside the river; Real Madrid draw greater support because of its successes, while Atletico has a more working class fan base, which comes particularly from the south of the city.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona rivalry

The rivalry comes about as Madrid and Barcelona are the two largest cities in Spain, and the two clubs are the most successful and influential football clubs in the country. They are sometimes identified, especially among FC Barcelona supporters in Catalonia, with Spanish nationalism and Catalanism, respectively. It is one of the most followed football matches in the world, watched by hundreds of millions of people in many countries.

The clásico term came about in the mid-2000s, and is originally a name for any historical South American footballing rivalry. The new name came about due to the growing presence of Spanish football in the Americas, with the advent of global marketing of the game.

Players Of Real Madrid CF

Spanish teams are limited to three players without EU citizenship. The squad list includes only the principal nationality of each player; several non-European players on the squad have dual citizenship with an EU country. Also, players from the ACP countries—countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific that are signatories to the Cotonou Agreement—are not counted against non-EU quotas due to the Kolpak ruling. Real Madrid has established a reputation of signing only the world's best players, a throw back to President Santiago Bernabeu Yeste 's 1950s policy that brought the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas, Francisco Gento and Raymond Kopa. In recent times the likes of Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham, Owen, Robinho, Van Nistelrooy, Robben and Van Der Vaart simultaneously donned the prestigious white shirt, giving birth to the name Los Galacticos.

The second tenure of Florentino Perez is typical as seen with the arrival of the much famed pair of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso. Crest and colours

The first crest of had a simple design consisting of a decorative interlacing of the three initials of the club, "MCF" for Madrid Club de Fútbol, in dark blue on a white shirt. The first change in the crest occurred in 1908 when the letters adopted a more streamlined form and appeared inside a circle. The next change in the configuration of the crest did not occur until the presidency of Pedro Parages in 1920. At that time, King Alfonso XIII granted the club his royal patronage which came in the form of the title "Real madrid ", roughly translated as "Royal". Thus, Alfonso's crown was added to the crest and the club styled itself Real Madrid Club de Fútbol. With the dissolution of the monarchy in 1931, all the royal symbols (the crown on the crest and the title of Real) were eliminated. The crown was replaced by the dark mulberry band of the Region of Castile. In 1941, two years after the end of the Civil War, the crest's "Real Corona", or "Royal Crown", was restored while the mulberry stripe of Castile was retained as well. In addition, the whole crest was made full color, with gold being the most prominent, and the club was again called Real Madrid Club de Fútbol. The most recent modification to the crest occurred in 2001 when the club wanted to better situate itself for the twenty-first century and further standardize its crest. One of the modifications made was changing the mulberry stripe to a more bluish shade. Get your Real Madrid Tickets online to watch the world's richest club in action.
